A drill bit is a tool which augers into a surface, most commonly a workpiece, with a rotary cutting action. Drilling may be done to create a hole through the workpiece, to cut or shape it, or to make it easier to remove from the tool. Every drill has two main parts: the drill bit, and the drill chuck which allows rotation of the bit as it is fed into the workpiece.
